Cricklewood Wanderers FC Update

Cricklewood Wanderers Football Club (CWFC) – Update

CWFC First Team

The CWFC first team have made a solid start to the season. As of 10/10/17 we’ve not lost a game in all competitions since the opening day (9 games).

Too many draws means we’re currently sitting in midtable in the Middlesex County Football League, but with games in hand over many of the sides above, on early evidence there’s a real chance of promotion this season. We’ve also progressed through round 1 of the Alec Smith MCFL Cup.

Our participation in this year’s Buildbase FA Vase has thus far seen two fantastic results in First and Second round qualifying. We had a tough FRQ draw in Stotfold FC, a side who before our match were in 10th place two divisions above us. The match ended in a great result for us as we overcame them with a resounding 7-2 scoreline.

The next round saw us playing a team much closer to home, Rayners Lane FC, another team from a higher division. We came out on top again, amazingly with another 7-2 scoreline!

Next up we play Cray Valley PM FC, away from home, in the First Round Proper on October 21st.

CWFC Reserves

Inconsistency in player availability has seen a poor start to the season for the reserve side, who currently sit bottom of the Islington Midweek Football League. It’s not ideal, but if this is the cost of the first team going 9 games unbeaten since early August, we’ll take it for now. We’re hopeful the reserves will start climbing the table as the season progresses.

CWFC Youth

CWFC’s two boys’ youth teams have both enjoyed unbeaten starts to the season at time of writing. Our girls’ side are still being put together, and have started training. Additionally, we are currently managing 5 teams for the Harris Academy St John’s Wood as part of our Schools’ Programme.

The CWFC U15s are flying at the moment, and top the Camden and Islington Youth League.

U15s Oct

The CWFC U13s have had a slow start in the Camden and Islington Youth League terms of fixtures, and have drawn their opening two games, both of which they had the better of. The only way is up.

The CWFC Girls’ U14s have started training, with around 20 girls showing interest and showing up. Lots of beginners, but a few seasoned players have entered the fray and we’re hoping to arrange friendly matches in the near future.

We are managing 5 school teams for the Harris Academy, St John’s Wood this academic year, and are looking to expand our Schools’ offering in 2018.
